MUS 1510 - Music Appreciation: Jazz/Pop


A study of the development of jazz and its importance as an American art form. The course includes a survey of the beginnings of jazz as a blending of the musical cultures of Africa and Europe. The development of jazz from the late nineteenth century to the present will be traced. Current trends in jazz and rock, as well as electronic influences in contemporary pop music will be emphasized. Studies will include sociological and cultural trends and their influence on the evolution of the various styles and forms of jazz and pop. Implications for the future will be considered. 

Credits: 4 hours

Notes: MUS 1510 may not be elected by music majors to fulfill General Education requirements.
