REL 2000 - Introduction to the Study of Religion


Introduces students to the ways in which religion and related concepts have been defined as objects of academic study, and the methods and theories that have been developed and used to analyze them. The course will familiarize students with the history and present state of the discipline of religious studies, and enable them to compare and assess various ways of defining, describing, interpreting, and explaining religion(s). It will also address the role and significance of religion in human history and contemporary society.
