Public History Major

This program is designed to prepare students for entry-level positions in fields of public history such as museum and archival administration, preservation/restoration work, interpretation, consulting, and applied research.

Major Requirements:


1. Required Courses (6 hours)


2. Four courses chosen from the following: (12 hours)


3. Approved electives from other departments (18 hours)


(check with advisor)

4. One course from the following: (3 hours)


5. North American History, 3 courses, including 2 at the 4000/5000-level (9 hours)


6. History electives (12 hours)


7. Internship (6 hours)


Baccalaureate Writing Requirement


Students who have chosen the History major will satisfy the Baccalaureate Writing Requirement by successfully completing:

Minimum total of 66 hours in the major is required. The Public History major does not require a minor. History majors in the Public History major also must complete a foreign language through the 1010 level by course work or examination.
