REL 2000 - Thinking About ReligionREL 2000 engages students in the fundamental big questions about religion in human culture and society. We begin by evaluating definitions of religion and methods of studying the diversity of religious beliefs and practices. We use case studies to address issues such as religion's relation to social justice, political power, ethnic and cultural identity, violence, gender, mythical figures, spirituality, the environment and globalization. This course satisfies Western Michigan University Essential Studies Level 1: Foundations – Inquiry and Engagement: Critical Thinking in the Arts and Humanities Category. Credits: 3 hours |
