AFS 2000 - Introduction and Foundations to Africana Studies Provides an overview of the origins of black people, the philosophical underpinnings of the discipline, the evolution of the field of Africana Studies, its theoretical and practical applications, and the holistic method of studying African peoples and their social evolution. Historically oriented, the course is designed to be interpretive rather than chronological. The course covers the African civilization in the western hemisphere, including the United States, folklore, mythology, customs, rise of Black nationalism, role of black consciousness, and present day alternatives.
