REL 5210 - The Teaching of Religion in the Public School This course focuses on methods and issues involved in the teaching of religion in the public school. Particular attention given to the problems of its constitutionality, the distinction between the academic study of religion and religious instruction, and the question of meaning. Various approaches to the teaching of religion are critically evaluated. Teaching methods appropriate to the level of instruction, availability, organization, selection, and use of materials will be discussed. Required of all students following a Secondary Education Curriculum which includes the academic study of religions as a minor.
Credits: 2 hrs.
