PSY 6010 - An Introduction to Assessment This course is designed to introduce the student of professional psychology to the general area of psychological assessment. Through course readings and lectures the student will acquire a background in issues such as Principles of Measurement, Types of Measurement Tools, Use of Rapid Assessment Devices, and criteria for selecting measures for practice. Additional areas covered will compare and contrast traditional psychometric considerations with behavioral assessment concerns, examine the latest version of the diagnostic and statistical manual of the DSM and behavioral assessment, address behavioral interviewing, as well as direct observation of behavior. The course will prepare the student to operate with sufficient understanding of assessment issues in the various clinical and research roles anticipated during the early professional psychology training career at Western Michigan University.
