IME 5020 - Manufacturing Engineering Fundamentals


This course reviews the fundamental principles in Computer-Aided Design (CAD), Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAM), and metrology used in the practice of manufacturing engineering. Topics covered include: CAD documentation techniques, CAD modeling, Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), EIA/ISO format (G&M code) Numerical Control (N/C) programming, graphical N/C programming systems, and Statistical Process Control (SPC). The laboratory includes hands-on experiences with commercial CAD/CAM systems, N/C machines, and instruments of precision measurement. This course cannot be applied for credit toward the Master of Science in Manufacturing Science. This course may be used to meet the stated prerequisite requirements normally satisfied by IME 2460, IME 3580, and IME 4810 in the graduate program.

Prerequisites/Corequisites: Prerequisites: IME 1420 and IME 2540. (Recommended)

Credits: 4 hrs.
