ECE 5200 - Power Electronics: Dynamics and Control


This course will address basic transformer isolated and resonant switchmode converter topologies. Topics will include steady-state analysis, large-signal, small-signal modeling and analysis, state-space and discrete-time models. Magnetics, transformers, control techniques and power conditioning of converters. PWM control. Advanced application areas include: electric drives, power systems - HVDC, FACTS and STATCOM and new materials - Galium arsenide [GaAs], polytypes of silicon carbide [SiC], and gallium nitrate [GaN].

Credits: 3 hours

Notes: This course is restricted to graduate students majoring in either Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
