MUS 5660 - Musical Acoustics


A course designed for the music student. Discussion as well as laboratory demonstration of such concepts as: simple vibrating systems; waves and wave propagation; complex vibrations; resonance, intensity and loudness levels; tone quality; frequency and pitch; intervals and scales; tuning and temperament; auditorium and room acoustics; psychoacoustics. In addition, the instruments of the orchestra, the human voice, and recent developments in sound system components will be investigated.

Prerequisites/Corequisites: Prerequisite: MUS 1610.

Credits 3 hrs.
