MUS 1620 - Aural Skills I The first in a sequence of courses designed to develop a musician’s “inner” ear: the ability to understand music by ear and to hear music internally before it is performed aloud. Recognition of music patterns will result from the development of listening skills (dictation, error detection, musical memory) and performance skills (sight reading, prepared performance, conducting and improvisation). This course concentrates on diatonic melodies, simple and compound meters, intervals, triads, and basic chord progressions.
Prerequisites & Corequisites: Prerequisite: MUS 1590 with a grade of “C” or better or departmental examination.
Credits: 1 hour
