MATH 1140 - Essential Quantitative Reasoning This course is intended for students whose programs of study have no further mathematics requirements. Its purpose is to develop quantitative reasoning skills and an awareness of the use of mathematics to solve in the world around us. Areas of application may include: modeling real world situations graphically and symbolically, the mathematics of finance (investments, loans, etc.), and quantitative data collection and analysis. A graphing calculator is required. This course satisfies WMU Essential Studies Level 1: Foundations – Quantitative Literacy Category.
Prerequisites & Corequisites: Prerequisite: MATH 1100 with a grade of “C” or better, or by placement into the course. Placement may be determined by ACT/SAT scores and/or by a Department of Mathematics placement mechanism.
Credits: 3 hours
