LANG 6580 - Second Language Acquisition and Teaching Instruction This course has a dual focus: a theoretical focus on second language acquisition and the ways by which non-native speakers come to acquire a second language; and a practical focus on methods of teaching in a proficiency-oriented program, as well as on the teaching and learning of culture and the pedagogical use of technologies. Students must complete this course and achieve a minimum score of Advanced Low (French and German) or Intermediate High (Chinese) on the OPI exam prior to their directed-teaching internship.
Note: May be repeated for credit. Open to graduate students only.
Prerequisites/Corequisites: Prerequisites: Minimum of four courses, including a language at the 3160 and 3170 level, or equivalent, or instructor approval. Additionally, one semester-abroad in a target language-speaking country or a minimum score of Advanced Low (French and German) or Intermediate High (Chinese) on the OPI exam.
