TEL 5000 - Culture and Second Language Development This undergraduate course is required for candidates in the TESOL major. In this course, candidates will explore the relationship between second language development and culture. More specifically, the course will focus on the nature and role of culture in language development and academic achievement, the importance of valuing cultural groups and learners’ cultural identities, the value and role of literary and cultural texts that reflect learners’ cultures, and similarities and differences between the American culture and their learners’ heritage cultures.
Note: Open to upper-level undergraduate and graduate students.
