FCS 4630 - Medical Nutrition Therapy Laboratory I


This “hands on,” dry lab is the first of a 2-semester course sequence. This course along with FCS 4600, FCS 4610, and FCS 4640 will provide students with an opportunity to gain and apply foundational knowledge in medical nutrition therapy to meet the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics’ (ACEND) education standards for didactic programs in dietetics.  Students develop skill in the Nutrition Care Process (assessment, nutrition diagnosis, intervention, monitoring and evaluation) as an adjunct therapy to other medical, surgical, and pharmacological therapies. This first semester focuses on methods of assessment, diagnosis, gastroenterology-related dietary interventions, and the introduction to enteral and parenteral nutrition.

Prerequisites & Corequisites: Corequisite: FCS 4600; Senior standing in nutrition and dietetics.

Credits: 1 hour

Restrictions: Restricted to majors in Nutrition and Dietetics.
