SPAN 1000 - Basic Spanish I


Spanish 1000 provides an elementary knowledge of vocabulary and basic grammatical structures in the Spanish language. The course fosters the basic development of all four language skills (i.e., listening, speaking, reading, and writing,) as well as basic knowledge about Spanish-speaking cultures. Students will engage in uncomplicated communicative tasks in straightforward social situations by using short messages. They will engage in tasks such as giving personal information, expressing preferences, personality traits, naming basic objects, as well as a number of pastimes activities. Students will learn major features of the geography and cultures of the Hispanic world. This course meets the student learning outcomes in the WMU Essential Studies Level 2-Exploration and Discovery, Demonstrate familiarity with a language other than English and/or the culture associated with it.
