LS 5190 - Elementary Disciplinary Literacy An exploration of curriculum and assessments that foster independent and strategic use of disciplinary literacy practices in grades 3-6. Literacy is examined through social, cultural, linguistic, cognitive and critical perspectives with an emphasis on developing new understandings and building academic vocabulary across science, social studies, math, English language arts and other disciplinary areas. Candidates will plan and implement literacy instruction that aligns with current standards and effective practices.
Note: Open to upper-level undergraduate and graduate students.
Prerequisites & Corequisites: Prerequisites: LS 4200 and LS 4210, Junior or Senior standing; with a grade of “CB” or better needed in all prerequisites.
Credits: 3 hours
