MUS 1520 - Rock Music: Genesis and Development A study of rock and roll music since its inception in the mid-1950s. The impact of black rhythm and blues, jazz forms, country and western music, and radio and television upon early rock will be studied as well as further developments such as “do-wop”, soul music, folk rock, psychedelic rock, jazz rock, the various English schools, arena rock, heavy metal, punk styles, new wave, grunge, and rap-influenced rock, to mention but a few. The course does not require any previous music experience or the ability to read music. This course satisfies WMU Essential Studies Level 2: Exploration and Discovery – Artistic Theory and Practice Category. This course also meets the Diversity and Inclusion student learning outcome.
