MUS 3120 - Explorations in World Music Music traditions are represented in public performances and maintained in private practice all over the world. This course, while looking at a variety of world music traditions through the lens of culture, also considers those processes of transformation and assimilation that are typical of our historical time. Through an examination of socio-cultural contexts in contemporary society, students will explore specific cultural themes including music’s place in daily life, migration and memory, worship and belief, diversity and inclusion, and identity and politics. This course satisfies WMU Essential Studies Level 2: Exploration and Discovery – World Language and Culture Category. This course also meets the Diversity and Inclusion student learning outcome.
