FIN 6450 - Financial Modelling This is a hands-on course that requires students to analyze data by developing a mathematical or computational model. Primary focus will be on how to effectively use Microsoft Excel, its build-in programming language, and Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) to build a sophisticated spreadsheet model to assist in financial decision-making. The skill set is expanded to include advanced features of Excel including financial and statistical tools/functions, array manipulation, data analysis, solver, scenario manager, and data & pivot tables to various topics including the time value of money, cash budgeting, capital budgeting, beta estimation, break-even and leverage analysis, stock and bond valuation and portfolio statistics. Students work in teams to solve cases and give presentations.
Note: Open to graduate students only.
Prerequisites/Corequisites: Prerequisite: FIN 6120
Credits: 3 hours
Restrictions: Restrictions Enrollment in MScFin program and to HCOB MBA and MSA students with MScFin program director approval and the approval of the Director of Graduate Business Programs for MBA students and MSA advisor for MSA students.
