SWRK 6364 - Trauma in Refugee Populations This course explores the issues connected with the refugee population, including who is politically defined as a refugee and what types of trauma are common within the refugee population. Students will acquire an orientation to evidence- based interventions that work well with individuals from a variety of nationalities who may be based in a non- Western culture. Students will understand the conditions in which refugees may become clients and the particular challenges they may face, including socio-economic issues, familial dynamics, and the impact of trauma. Political trauma will be explored as an additional challenge for some refugees. Evidence- based interventions with refugees as persons who have experienced trauma will be explored.
