EMR 6560 - Mixed Methods Research

This is an introductory course in mixed methods research (MMR) approaches. Students will learn how qualitative and quantitative data can be integrated to answer complex research questions. Students will draw on knowledge gained in prior quantitative and qualitative methods courses to explicitly focus on strategies for combining methods in a single study. Students will be introduced to a variety of ways in which mixed methods are used, including sequential methods such that data obtained via qualitative approaches is used to inform the design or interpretation of quantitative data, data obtained via quantitative approaches is used to inform the design or interpretation of qualitative data, and concurrent use of quantitative and qualitative data. The course will also cover formulating research questions, collecting and analyzing different types of data, choosing the appropriate mixed methods designs, and interpreting mixed method research results.

Note: Open to graduate students only.

Prerequisites/Corequisites: Prerequisites: Grade of B or higher in EMR 6450 and EMR 6480 or permission of instructor
