CIS 6410 - Financial Data Analytics This course introduces key data analytics skills, techniques, and tools to analyze financial data. It takes students from basic skills, such as data extraction from popular financial data sources (e.g., Bloomberg, Compustat, CRSP, web, cloud, and light-weight data sources), spreadsheet analysis & data modeling, ETL (extracting, transforming, and loading), to some of the more advanced forms of analytics, including descriptive analytics, data visualization, and basic data mining/machine learning for real-time and off-line financial data. Students will learn to access and download data, analyze the data, create reports, and provide written and oral reports for different financial and non-financial audiences. Professional practices and standards in different financial and analytics professions will also be introduced.
Note: Open to graduate students only.
