GEOS 5170 - Research Project This course provides students with research experience in geological and environmental sciences using real-world problems and datasets. Together with the instructor of the course, the students will identify their research topics and the questions to be addressed, research and critique previous work, and advocate solutions/hypotheses and develop research protocols to test them. They will also explain the advantages of their preferred methodology over the earlier attempts. The students will apply their proposed methodologies by collecting, processing, and analyzing relevant data sets, and ultimately, they will disclose their findings and highlight the wider applications and implications of their results, and the limitations of their adopted methodologies. They will also learn best practices to present their findings in Power Point format, and to summarize their results in manuscripts and/or reports.
