Program Requirements
- Up to 8 retroactive credits for SPAN 2000 and SPAN 2010 may be awarded, but these credits do not count toward the major.
- All courses must be completed with a grade of “C” or better.

Recommended study abroad soft requirement.
Exceptions to this requirement may be granted when circumstances do not allow the student to take part in this very important academic experience. One semester of at least 14 weeks of study abroad in a Spanish-speaking country. This study abroad experience will grant up to 12 credit hours that are equivalent to these four courses (SPAN 4520, SPAN 4530, SPAN 4550, and one additional Spanish course at the 3000-level or above).
Additionally
Students pursuing a Spanish language teaching certification must pass the Oral Proficiency Interview exam with a minimum score of Advanced Low and enroll in the College of Education and Human Development’s MATSE program after completion of their undergraduate Spanish degree. Please consult the college of Education’s revised secondary education guidelines for more information.
