The Master of Arts in Comparative Religion provides students with a knowledge of the principal theoretical works in the field of Comparative Religion. Students develop methodological skills that train them or further research and work in the study of religion and culture and related fields. Our program also trains students in world religions pedagogy.
Admission Requirements
- The completion of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution.
- The submission of a letter of intent stating specific areas of interest and academic and professional goals.
- Two letters of recommendation from persons able to evaluate the applicant’s potential for graduate study.
- An academic writing sample of 10-16 pages.

Program Requirements
The Department of Comparative Religion offers course work leading to a Master of Arts in Comparative Religion, with two options: Required Courses (12 hours)
Electives (12 hours)
12 hours of electives chosen from approved courses.
Master’s Thesis (6 hours)
Prepare and defend, in oral examination, a master’s thesis under the direction of a thesis advisor. Foreign Language Proficiency
Demonstrate reading proficiency in one foreign language relevant to the research area. Option II
This option does not require the preparation of a thesis. Required Courses (12 hours)
Electives (18 hours)
18 hours of electives chosen from approved courses.
Comprehensive Examination
Satisfactorily complete a comprehensive examination.
