The ACS Certified Chemistry Major is designed for students interested in going directly into the chemical industry after graduation. While this degree is designed for those going into the chemical industry, it is more than adequate for those planning on going to graduate school in chemistry. A minimum of 43 CHEM credit hours must be selected according to the following guidelines.

Students must take a course sequence in biochemistry that includes a laboratory.
Students should elect to take either the one-term Introductory Biochemistry (CHEM 3550), Introductory Biochemistry Laboratory (CHEM 3560), and an additional 5000-level course for a minimum of 43 hours or take both Biochemistry I & II (CHEM 5500 and CHEM 5540) and Biochemistry Laboratory (CHEM 5510).

- Additional courses in statistics (STAT 2600 or STAT 3640) and Differential Equations (MATH 2740 or MATH 3740) are recommended.
