Computer Information Systems Minor (CMIN)

Return to {$returnto_text} Return to: Departments and Programs

The minor in Computer Information Systems (CIS) is available to students enrolled in bachelor’s degree programs at Western Michigan University. The CIS minor curriculum is flexible, requires no prior technical knowledge, and is designed to complement students’ primary career field by preparing them with experiential learning and understanding of information systems in today’s on-premise and on-the-cloud workplaces. Students develop core competencies in their primary area of study and broaden their horizons by taking appropriate CIS courses that align closely with their majors. The CIS minor boosts students’ essential technology skills and positions them well for employment in their primary career field and in technology-oriented environments. A minimum of 15 hours is required for this minor.

Note: Any course taken to fulfill a student’s major requirement, or taken as an essential studies course, cannot be double counted to satisfy the requirement of the CIS minor with the exception of CIS 2700. If a student has taken CIS 2700, the student has already met the required course requirement for the CIS minor. Students are strongly encouraged to meet with a CIS advisor before selecting elective courses.

Elective Courses:

Select four courses (12 hours) from the following list. At least two courses must be 3000-level or above.
