Music Therapy Major (MUYJ)

The Bachelor of Music: Therapy is a professional degree which fulfills all of the requirements established by the American Music Therapists Association. Admission is determined by audition on a primary instrument and interview with therapy faculty. No minor is required. The process for continuing enrollment in this major is outlined in the Music Student Handbook. Completion of the degree grants eligibility to sit for an exam administered by the Certification Board for Music Therapies to earn the credential of Music Therapist - Board Certified (MT-BC).

Applied Music (8 hours)


A total of eight credit hours of Applied Music on your major instrument. Sections designated for non-performance majors are two credits each semester and include juries and a sophomore hearing.

Musicology (9 hours)


Keyboard Musicianship (6 hours)


Therapy majors who have passed a piano competency exam may be excused from any keyboard requirements and substitute other Music electives for these credits.
