Eligible Registered Nurse applicants must review their prior coursework and credits with the nursing advisor before admission to the RN-BSN program. In addition to the nursing sequence of courses, students must complete the following WMU Essential Studies/support course work prior to graduation from WMU:
- WMU Essential Studies Level 2: Exploration and Discovery – Artistic Theory and Practice Category Credits: 3 hours
- WMU Essential Studies Level 2: Exploration and Discovery – Societies and Cultures Category Credits: 3 hours
- WMU Essential Studies Level 2: Exploration and Discovery – World Language and Culture Category Credits: 3 hours
- WMU Essential Studies Level 3: Connections – Global Perspectives Category Credits: 3 hours
- Approved computer usage course Credits: 3 hours - may be waived based on student computer literacy
- College-level writing Credits: 3 to 4 hours
- Mathematics proficiency needed to enroll in an approved statistics course
- No minor required

Curriculum requirements for Associate Degree Graduates and Diploma Graduates
Academic Credit Transferred from Associate Degree or Diploma Program
Graduates of community college associate degree and diploma programs will be awarded transfer credit on a course-by-course basis in accordance with University policies for prior WMU Essential Studies (WES), science and electives. An additional block of credits may be awarded for prior nursing study and successful NCLEX completion. Credits will be held in escrow until NUR 3400 has been completed with a grade of “C” or better.
Supporting Cognate Courses (19 hours)
Can be taken at WMU or elsewhere as specified by the Michigan Transfer Agreement (MTA):
- Approved computer usage course Credits: 3 hours
- WES courses as required: review with RN-BSN Advisor
Credit for prior learning and passing NCLEX exam (30 hours)
