Western Michigan University offers the premier Food Marketing major in the United States. The major has a 100% job placement rate, within three months of graduating. The Food Marketing faculty has extensive industry experience, with a strong focus on applying concepts at a practical level, with industry involvement in classrooms, external sessions, and industry events. The program’s Industry Advisory Board is actively engaged in students’ success, and represents over $300B in sales. The program includes a student organization, the Food Marketing Association, which organizes student interviews, company presentations, and social events. The Food Marketing program produces the top Food Marketing Conference in the industry and operates the Food Industry Research and Education (FIRE) Center.
The Food Marketing major at WMU is part of a larger group of universities and colleges that focus on this major through the Food Industry University Coalition. The major offers Professional Category Management Certification to the industry, the only university-based certification of its kind. All Food Marketing students are offered this certification as part of the major.
As an integral part of producing a well-rounded student, the major offers recruitment events with potential employers and study abroad experiences, an annual two-week industry tour around the Great Lakes Region, competition on multiple global and national stages, required internships, a multitude of networking opportunities, and annual scholarship opportunities over $100,000.
