The Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in PK-12 Educational Leadership is targeted toward professionals working in school and/or district-level educational environments. Depending on the courses taken by students in this program, they may be recommended to receive an Elementary & Secondary Administrator Certificate or a Central Office Endorsement from the state of Michigan (or some other state depending on such state’s administrator certification requirements.) A minimum of 60-69 hours, including some related credit hours from a Master’s degree, is required.
Key program goals include preparing individuals to become transformational leaders, ready to help educational institutions address current challenges, including the need to better educate students who have historically not been well served by traditional learning institutions. In addition, graduates will expand their inquiry and research skills, enabling them to add to the knowledge base concerning education, especially as it relates to the growing challenges facing all educational institutions.
Applicants must have completed a master’s degree from an accredited institution prior to beginning this Ph.D. program. WMU’s graduate application, along with more details on the application requirements and processes, can be found on the Department of Educational Leadership, Research, and Technology’s website, wmich.edu/leadership.
