SOC 3140 - Race in America

An examination of race and ethnicity as basic organizing principals of American society and its institutions over time. The course will focus on: how institutions have structured racial and ethnic inequality over time; how racial and ethnic inequality is systematically reproduced in the Twenty First Century; and how the institutional reproduction of economic inequality is related to racial and ethnic inequality.  The course concludes by examining what we can do as individuals and as together as citizens to promote racial and ethnic equality.
