CECP 6250 - Legal Issues in Higher Education


The litigious nature of American (U.S.) society has made knowledge of legal issues related to liability, contracts, hiring and firing, free speech, disabilities, discrimination and many other topics a necessary skill for college administrators. Legal issues, legal enactments and precedents, constitutional provisions, court decisions and case law that impact higher education will be the focus of this course. Current legal issues affecting higher education will be monitored and discussed throughout the course.

Prerequisites/Corequisites: Prerequisites: CECP 6230 and 6330 or permission of the instructor.

Credits 3 hrs.

Open to Counselor Education and Counseling Psychology Graduate Students Only. Graduate students from other programs may enroll by special permission.
