SWRK 6310 - Human Behavior and the Social Environment


This course provides students with a conceptual and theoretical framework for understanding human behavior as influenced by the social environment across the life span. Human development and behavior are approached as part of historical and contemporary sociocultural processes acting interdependently with psychology, biology, economics, geography, and politics. Diversity issues such as race/ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, and social class are taken into consideration as critical elements in these processes and their relationships. The role of social welfare policy issues relevant to this course is also explored.

Prerequisites/Corequisites: Prerequisite: Admission to the MSW program or consent of the School of Social Work Director of Admissions.

Credits 3 hrs.
