GEOG 6710 - Landscape Ecology and Regional Planning Examines the relatively new field of landscape ecology and how the analysis of landscape spatial structures can be used to improve land-use planning decisions. In landscape ecology, the analysis is based upon a model of interaction of a “mosaic” of “patches”, “corridors”, and “matrixes” on the landscape. Regional ecology extends this analysis to the interaction of landscape mosaics across the regions. The seminar will focus on the patterns and changes of these mosaics, analyzing human uses and impacts on the landscape.
