SPPA 6470 - Cognitive Communication Disorders This course studies neurogenic-based disorders of cognition and communication in persons of all ages. Emphasis is upon children and adults surviving traumatic brain injury and living with dementia. The course presents content relevant to etiology, assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of children and adults with cognitive-communication disorders. Special attention will be placed upon community-based and contextually-relevant treatment practices and community integration principles. Theories of and methods for measuring quality of life will be discussed. Client-centered, WHO-ICF, interdisciplinary health care team practice will be used as the model for intervention. Roles for clinicians to influence health and social policy will be considered.
Prerequisites/Corequisites: Prerequisites: SPPA 6430 and SPPA 6460.
Credits: 2 hours
