SPPA 6560 - Dysphagia This course concerns swallowing disorders in infants, young children, and adults. It aims to establish a solid academic knowledge base in dysphagia, following the guidelines published by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. The course emphasizes understanding of the processes involved in swallowing in the normal population, the etiologies/symptomatology of swallowing disorders, evaluation and differential diagnosis of dysphagia, and management of dysphagia. Issues related to risk management, interdisciplinary team intervention, and family/caregiver education are also discussed.
