HOL 5520 - Healing through Movement This course is a survey of the use of movement for health and healing. Several movement and dance specialty areas are covered in order to explore personal growth, creativity, balance, stress reduction, spirituality, and cultural perspectives on healing of self and others. Body awareness, breathing, and communication will be emphasized throughout the exploration of movement modalities, such as Authentic Movement, Contact Improvisation, Creative Movement, Feldenkrais, Interplay, Labyrinth Walking, Progoff Journal Writing, Tai Chi Chuan, Dances of Universal Peace, and Movement Therapy. The format for the course will be a combination of lectures, discussion, experiential activities, and audio and video presentations. Students enrolled in social work, counseling psychology, occupational therapy, nursing, physical education, and dance will especially benefit from this course. No movement or dance experience is required.
Credits: 3 hours
