GEOS 1000 - Dynamic Earth Students will be introduced to the workings of our dynamic Earth, with some discussion of other planets. Topics include plate tectonics, evolution, earth materials, volcanoes, earthquakes, earth hazards, rivers and flooding, groundwater and pollution, glaciers and deserts, oceans and coasts, energy resources, and climate change. This course is designed for non-science majors who seek a basic course in geology. Students planning to major in any science or engineering should enroll in GEOS 1300. The course consists of three hours of lecture and a two-hour laboratory period per week. This course satisfies WMU Essential Studies Level 2: Exploration and Discovery – Scientific Literacy with Lab Category.
