HNRS 3201 - Art of the Book This course will cover the history and development of the book, beginning with ancient and classical forms, through the design, illustration, printing, and binding of manuscripts and printed texts from the early medieval period to the present. In addition, the course will include visits to the Kalamazoo Book Arts Center where students will participate in some basic bookmaking activities—papermaking, bookbinding, hand typesetting using movable type, and printing. This course satisfies WMU Essential Studies Level 2: Exploration and Discovery – Artistic Theory and Practice Category.
Credits: 3 hours
