LS 6170 - Disciplinary Literacy Designed to acquaint K-12 teachers with discipline specific knowledge and skills focused on apprenticing diverse learners’ reading, writing, thinking, and literacy development across grade levels and subject areas. Candidates will analyze a wide range of texts and multimodal approaches for lesson planning across disciplines. The complex differences found across discipline specific reading, writing, thinking, and communication are examined relative to theory, research and standards. An emphasis is placed on the effective and equitable use of assessments to plan culturally and linguistically responsive instruction.
