ANTH 4060 - Archaeology of Gender and Identity One important focus in archaeological research is the reconstruction of the identity of past individuals. Identity would have encompassed varied aspects of human experience that intersect, such as sex, gender, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, and free/enslaved status. This course will examine how archaeologists have approached identity and theoretical trends in studying sex, gender, and identity and discuss different methods for prehistoric and historic time periods. Various types of evidence will be utilized, such as art, artifacts, writing, and human remains, so that students understand how to address identity through their own research and read critically the research of others.
