GEOS 5740 - UAVs: Geophysical Applications


This course provides a fundamental understanding of the geophysical methods that can be used for airborne data collection, especially the theoretical and methodological details of the two UAV adoptable geophysical methods; Very Low Frequency (VLF) electromagnetic and magnetic methods. Capabilities and limitations of these methods will be discussed through an extensive set of case studies on geological and environmental problems of interest following the fundamentals. Instrumentation for both methods, survey design, data collection, data processing, and interpretation techniques will be also explored with hands-on exercises. 

Note: Open to upper-level undergraduate and graduate students

Prerequisites & Corequisites: Prerequisites: GEOS 1000 or GEOS 1300 or GEOG 1050 or GEOG 2250, or permission of instructor
