NUR 5300 - Historical & Theoretical Foundations of Nursing and Health Care This course focuses on the theoretical and historical foundations of the American “health care system” (the hospital, self-care, and public health). Ideas, events, and people are introduced and examined for their influence and significance in sculpting both the institutions and the social roles of health care providers. The interrelationship among nursing and the social, political, economic, and intellectual contexts are considered. Theories, conceptual models, and ways of thinking about health, disease, the illness experience, nursing, and relationships within the health care system are examined.
Prerequisites/Corequisites: Prerequisites: Admission to the Master of Science in Nursing program or consent of instructor.
Credits 3 hrs.
