Latinx and Latin American Studies minor (18 credit hours)

The Latinx and Latin American Studies minor provides students with interdisciplinary perspectives for understanding the social,economic and political realities that shape and connect Latinx and Latin American communities as both are deeply linked in their history, their people, their language and cultures. It also offers diverse approaches to studying the cultures, literatures and arts of the Americas. Ample opportunities are given to focus on Latinx cultures in our region, statewide, across the country, and in Latin America. Students minoring in Latinx and Latin American Studies will deepen their knowledge of the subject matter through courses in multiple disciplines with faculty members who have devoted their research work to these fields.

Program Requirements


Minimum of 18 hours with all courses earning a grade of “C” or better. Up to 9 credits from courses taken in another institution may count towards the minor.

Completion of two required core courses.

can be satisfied with satisfactory completion of one of the following two courses:

can be satisfied with satisfactory completion of one of the following five courses:

Electives


The remaining 12 credit hours can be satisfied from the following list of pre-approved courses, if not already used to satisfy the first and second core courses. With approval from the program director, other courses may be eligible to satisfy the electives.

Note:


In order for other courses to serve as electives, fifty percent or more of its content must be focused on Latinx and/or Latin American issues.
