LANG 3510 - The City of Gods: Power and Morality in the Roman World The foundation myth of Rome combines elements of the sacred with rape and fratricide. This course explores the complex and sometimes paradoxical relationship between Rome’s power and morality as portrayed by prominent writers. The evolving sense of Roman morality provides a perspective for understanding and appreciating morality, or moralities, today. Works from a variety of genres may be studied, including biography, epic poetry, satire, political oratory, and essays.
