GEOS 1000 - Earth Studies Students will be introduced to the dynamic workings of the earth, with some discussion also of other planets. The information will be designed to provide useful knowledge to guide the student’s future choices of living conditions. Topics include plate tectonic evolution, earth materials, volcanic activity, landslides, rivers and flooding, groundwater activity, glaciers and deserts, coastal processes, energy resources, climate change and earthquake locations and effects.
This course is especially designed for non-science majors who seek a basic course in physical geology. Students planning to major in geosciences or in another science or engineering are encouraged to enroll in GEOS 1300. Three lectures and a two-hour laboratory period per week.
Credits: 4 hours
