MATH 3140 - Mathematical Proofs The prime objective of this course is to involve the students in the writing and presenting of mathematical proofs. The topics in this course will include logic, types of proof, sets, functions, relations, mathematical induction, proofs in an algebraic setting such as divisibility properties of the integers, proofs in an analytic setting such as limits and continuity of functions of one variable. Additional topics may include elementary cardinal number theory, paradoxes and simple geometric axiom systems. This course is approved as a writing-intensive course which may fulfill the baccalaureate-level writing requirement of the student’s curriculum.
Prerequisites & Corequisites: Prerequisites: MATH (1230 or 1710) and MATH (2300 or 3740).
Credits: 3 hours
