A. Geography
In addition to the Department’s Core Requirements (see above), you will complete 6-8 hours of approved electives. These may be selected from appropriate geography courses as approved by the Department of Geography undergraduate advisor. This track examines the distribution patterns of physical environment and human activities of the world at local, regional, and global scales. Students will gain basic and comprehensive understanding of the spatial variability of the physical environment, human economic resource use and regional strength of different parts of the globe.
B. Geography Education
In addition to the Department’s Core Requirements (see above), you will complete courses in five disciplinary areas. The track in Geography Education prepares students for the master’s program in secondary education that is usually necessary for secondary school employment. The track will also prepare students for employment in the informal education sector should they decide to refocus their major prior to attaining the master’s degree. Opportunities to experience geography education through both formal and informal experiences are possible while completing the track through options for practical experiences and internships.
Area I: Introductory level core courses (21 hours)

Successful completion of this track prepares student for graduate-level work leading to teaching certification, but does not fulfill all requirements for teaching certification. Please consult the College of Education’s revised secondary education guidelines for more information.
